Comprehensive Guide to Greyhound Betting Types

Greyhound racing is a particularly popular sport in Australia, Ireland, Mexico, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States, and is part of the organised gambling industry.

Punters familiar with horse racing betting types will most likely recognise many of the greyhound betting types discussed below.

Straight, Single, or Win Bet

The 1st greyhound to cross the finish line wins the race and a straight bet must correctly predict which dog will come in 1st place in order to be successful.

Place Bet

The 2nd dog to cross the finish line places and a place bet will only be successful if the selection comes in 1st or 2nd place.

Show Bet

The 3rd dog to cross the finish line places and a show bet is only successful if the selection comes in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place.

Across the Board Bet

Three individual bets are made on one dog to win, place, and show. If the selection wins, the punter can collect on all three bets.

If the selection comes 2nd, the punter collects on the place and show bets, and if the selection comes 3rd, the punter collects on the show bet only.

Quinella or Reverse Forecast Bet

Make a selection on two dogs to cross the finish line in ANY order.

Perfecta, Exacta, or Straight Forecast Bet

Make a selection on two dogs to cross the finish line in EXACT order.

Trifecta, Tricast, or Treble Forecast Bet

Make a selection on three dogs to finish the race in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in EXACT order.

Superfecta Bet

Make a selection on four dogs to finish in EXACT order. With so many bets to choose from it’s easy to see why some may stick to it!

Note: the availability of this bet depends on how many dogs are racing.

Twin Trifecta Bet

A twin trifecta bet is a multiple pool bet, with two trifecta selections in two races. Select the winning trifecta in a race and then exchange that ticket for a second trifecta bet in the following race.

Half of the net twin trifecta pool will be paid equally to the winners of the first race when tickets are presented to be exchanged and the remaining half of the pool – along with any carry over – will be paid out to the winners of the second half.

If no one correctly predicts the second race, the pool is carried over to the next race.

Tri-Super Bet

Similar to the twin trifecta in that you select the winning trifecta in the first race and then exchange that ticket for a superfecta bet in the following race.

Titanic Tri-Super Bet

Similar to the tri-super except that the punter must correctly predict the trifecta combination in the 5th race and the superfecta in the 7th race.

Parlay or Accumulator Bet

A parlay or accumulator is a multiple bet in which simultaneous selections are made on two or more races with the intent of attaching the winnings of the first win onto the bet of the following race selected, and so forth.

All the selections must be correctly predicted in order for the parlay to be successful, which can yield lucrative dividends, but is also substantially more risky.

Daily Double

Similar to an accumulator bet in that the punter selects the winners of the first and second races of the day.
